April 19 -22 is closing weekend of the lastest installation in The Carr Center Gallery, As I See Me | Artists Under 30, and it will close with 2 Meet The Artists Events.

On Friday April 21 from 6 - 8 pm and on Saturday, April 22nd from 4 - 6 pm visitors will get a change to meet and hear the artists talk about their own work included the exhibition.

Participating in the talk backs will be the gifted young artists, Shanelle Harrison, Precious-Angel Jennings, Maria Malik, Seydehwon Nagbe, Miriam Hull, Cailyn Dawson, MarTenya Shawhan and O’Shun WIlliams.

As I See Me is a generational series of three exhibitions that will focus on self-portraits, reflecting how artists at varying stages of their lives see themselves. This fascinating, multi-media concept and exhibition has been curated by Lina Stephens & Tia Nichols.

As I See Me |Artists Under 30, is part one of a three-part series that will feature the juried work of selected early career artists, ages 30 and under.

Self-portraiture often portrays how an artist views themselves, with hopes to allow viewers to gain insight on what is personal to the creator. This exhibition focuses on the artist’s perceptions of themselves through the demarcation of age. Two more upcoming exhibitions, focusing on work from mid-career artists and senior artists, will open in the Gallery later this year

This exhibition is now open in the Carr Center Gallery located at 15 E. Kirby Street, inside the historic Park Shelton building in Detroit’s Midtown Cultural Center. Gallery hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday noon – 5 pm and Friday noon to 8 pm.
